Five Day Broughton Archipelago Orca
Sea Kayak Adventure

Broughton archipelago Our Broughton Archipelago Five Day Orca Adventure combines the maximum wildlife, scenery, local history and paddling as can be squeezed into five days while maintaining a relaxed schedule. We paddle out and paddle home allowing us to get a good distance out into the wilderness in a limited amount of time, while trying to minimize areas you have already paddled. The first two days are typically spent in Johnstone Strait, an area frequented by both Orca and Humpback whales in addition to the plethora of wildlife inhabiting these waters, so sightings are frequent and unforgettable. The third, fourth and fifth day are spent exploring the island maze and kayakers paradise of the Broughton Archipelago and the marine mammal rich Blackfish Sound. The Broughton Archiopelago will introduce you to the aboriginal history of the area as we seek out the ancient war canoe paths of the native inhabitants. Looking over the side of your kayak the waters abound with life in the shallows. Birds of many variations proliferate the region. Dolphin and porpoise abound, as well as the ever-present seal. You will see ancient rock paintings on cliff walls and visit old village sites including Mamalalcolla, Village of the Last Potlatch. While Blackfish Sound, named after the first nation name for the Orca, will delight with its multitude of sea creatures and spectacular scenery. These areas are typically much quieter than the Johnstone Strait as the tidal currents that must be traversed keep many people away. This enables us to sample more of what the area has to offer.

This tour is a favourite for everyone who wants to encounter our beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife in a physically low impact, non-polluting and natural manner.

While this tour has plenty to keep the experienced kayaker interested, it is also well within the capability of most novices. We will typically paddle 10 to 14 kilometres per day (around 7-8 Nautical Miles) usually in stable tandem kayaks. Single kayaks may be available for those with previous kayaking experience and knowledge of self-rescue techniques.

It is an ideal tour for those who are passing through the North Island as it provides a marvellous, relaxed way to get out, away from civilization and experience the true majesty of British Columbia while encountering our spectacular wildlife. Come visit before progress obliterates how it used to be.

Escape the motel for a couple of nights and spend them under the stars on a remote beach while you listen for the sound of a whale blowing in the distance. With tours departing every Monday you can be sure we have a Broughton Archipelago Five Day Orca Adventure that suits your schedule.
